Beaver Is My Birth Totem

Most people are aware of the sun sign or the sign of the Zodiac that they were born under. Did you know that you also have a moon sign and there is an animal totem that goes with that sign?

My birth totem is the Beaver. I was born during the Pink Moon or Planters' Moon that occurs between April 20 through May 20. The Beaver is a most noble totem to have with me through my journey in this lifetime. It is a dream builder or the builder in the Animal Kingdom. Beavers have a strong sense of family and of the home in general. Beaver teaches us to not get painted into a corner and to always have more than one escape route. Beaver usually has a desire to find comfort and security by having physical possessions. Eventually, Beaver realizes the real security found within. Beaver is industrious, patient, and resourceful.

Additional Totems of Birth

Along with the Beaver being my birth totem comes other totems to follow also. My elemental clan totem is that of Turtle (Earth Chief or Earth Mother). My Spiritual Keeper is Wabun or the Golden Eagle. So it is important for me to also learn from both of these sacred animals.

A mineral that I should find strength from is Jasper or Bloodstone. My power direction comes from the East on the Medicine Wheel. A direction that signifies the power of new life and re-awakening. East is red on the Medicine Wheel.

I hope that you have learned a little about a Birth Totem and I look forward to making future hubs showing the other 11 birth totems from Native American Beliefs. In the meantime, you can find out more about Native American Totems at my blog.

Nice posting - it's good to see more interest being given to birth totems. When I started researching for my series of birth totem paintings, I had to dig pretty deep - but now I'm finding info with greater frequency. I was born during the Leaves Falling Moon, and Raven is my life teacher. It is interesting that many people - including myself - are surprised when they discover their birth totem animal, having felt an affinity for that animal all their lives.

I have not come across birth totems before and now you have me wondering what mine is. Guess I will have to wait and see.
