Crow Totem Meanings
75What medicine will a Crow Totem bring you?
Many tribal traditions of the Native American peoples here in North America believe in spiritual totems or animals that bring us medicine or lessons for us to learn in our lifetime. Today will will talk about the Crow Totem and what it means for you when this most intelligent of birds picks you to work with. And yes, I did say that correctly. The animals pick you to teach and not the other way around.
Crow can be your Native Totem in different ways. He might be your birth totem which would mean that your birth occurred during the Falling Leaves Moon, also referred to as the Ducks Flying Moon. This moon will shine brightly in Father Sky sometime between September 22/23 through October 22/23 each year. If Crow has chosen you at birth, he will always be with you.
A Crow totem can also be one of your Nine power totems that also walk your journey througout your lifetime. He can be the animal who will work with you in your East, South, West, or North winds or in your Above, Below, Within directions. He might also choose to walk on your Right Side or your Left Side in your journey.
A Native Totem, such as Crow, may also be what is called a Messenger Totem that only walks with you for a particular time in your walk on this earth. The messenger totems will see a lesson we need in our lives and will walk with us until the lesson is learned. That could be for a day, a week, or even years.
Mulberry1 wondered in a comment of another article of mine about Crow coming to her a few years back. I'm dedicating this to you Mulberry. Now let's see what Crow might have been trying to tell you.
Native Totem Crow
The Medicine Of Crow
Crow is about Law, most specifically Sacred Law. He is the keeper of these laws and all sacred texts are under this protection. Sacred texts of the Native Peoples are all bound in Crow feathers.
Human law and Sacred law are not the same. We humans, many times, struggle with the balancing of the two ways. Crow sees that the physical world and the spiritual world, as we humans interpret them, are an illusion. As a totem he comes to help us see our personal truth.
The Crow totem will come to us when it is time to reflect on how we see the laws of the Great Spirit in relation to the laws of humanity. Great Spirit is the term many indigenous peoples refer to when some would say the Holy Spirit while others might just say God.
Crow medicine teaches us to be mindful of our opinions and actions. We must be willing to walk our talk, speak our truths, and know our life's mission. We learn to balance our past, present, and future with Crow.

Working With The Crow Totem
Crows have been known to mob together to drive off negative energy for those who have a Crow totem. Sometimes society will look at crows as thieves because they are attracted to shiny things and will take them. There is a lesson in that though.
As you work with a crow totem you will begin to draw what you need into your life. Crow will make sure you see it. Pay attention when Crow seems to be trying to get your attention because he most assuredly is! He may be warning you of danger or calling your attention to something important (that bright and shiny thing!).
Crow is known as a sign of honesty at all costs. He is a sign of change and our destiny. Crow is also about flexibility. His keen eyesight will direct us if we listen to his caw or watch his dance. Crows belong to a community and will do what is best for the whole.
I wonder mulberry1 do any of these messages ring true for when Crow seemed to be trying to get through to you?

Wonderful article, Bev! You are very knowledgeable with totems.
I like that the crow helps us to see our own truth.
Now I will look at the crow with a new insight. Thanks for the information.
I may see a connection. 3 years ago there was a crow that I would often encounter when I took a walk, any time of day. He would sit high in a Sycamore tree and caw at me. Sometimes I would encounter him a mile down the road, other times near my house. A couple of times he "buzzed me". I haven't seen him/her since that summer. Anyway, from what you said I can only tie it to learning to balance my past, present, and future. I was going through massive changes at the time. Left my job/career, took primary responsibility in caring for my elderly mother, and moved. There was certainly confusion about how to deal with all of my committments to old friends, husband, parent, and so forth. Thanks so much for writing this, wish I had known more about this at the time!
I love Crows, I saw a Huge Crow outside my job the other day.. it is interesting about these 'birth totem' hubs, I haven't heard of these before :)
I also love crows. Very interesting Hub and I am going to read some of your others.
Crow is my teacher / friend and works with me when I do healing work. Recently before an additional training class I heard crows all around , then I looked down to see that crow had left me a feather. I knew that the work I was doing was supported. But, additionally from your comments about crow and crow feathers I understand much more. Thank you.
I love animal totems - I know when crows flock near me I am being asked to

Just finding my way around Hubpages and had to pop in to say hello.

I'm from Alaska and we have many boisterous ravens here. Much of this information isn't too new, although, I enjoyed reading it. All over Alaska, the different creation stories all involve Raven the Trickster. Since I was child was taught to always greet a raven respectfully, saying " Hello, Grandfather."
I just rediscovered your article and it is as meaningful for me as it was 8 months ago. I, too, am flocked by crows. Plagued by acting mindlessly for years, I am reminded of my recent commitment to act mindfully and appreciate the gifts in my life today. At every point in my life, I remember that the choice between good and evil is mine to make. And crow helps me think before acting. So I feed the crows in my neighborhood, I watch where they flock and I thank them each day. Thanks for reminding me of the mindfulness aspect of the crow totem.
BevsPaper, we have spoken before of the Crow Totem. I have always considered Crow my totem and just noticed the dates in this hub. My birthday is inside those dates. Thanks for a great hub!
Enjoyed your useful information to me at this moment . Thank you everyone especially crow for leading me here :)
I loved this hub on crow totems and see that you have other "totem" stories and their meaning. That's awesome! Thanks for sharing :)
The crow has chosen me. The dance started about 8 months ago, give or take a few months. Gradually over that period of time, communication has grown and it's starting to get to the point where I feel like the crows are asking me to come closer to them - physically, as in telling me they will not run or fly away if I approach. They made a very big show of protecting me this morning from a man they clearly do not like. They pretty much follow me everywhere I go now. Sometimes they are quiet and discreet, but more and more often they are making a point of letting others know that they are with me. I have mixed feelings about that. They range from love, gratitude, amazement and humility (and sometimes outright amusement), to deep self consciousness. I fear that people see me as different enough as it is - the crows will call even more attention to that. Also, an Alpine Cough, a non indigenous, crow like bird has appeared to me a total of three times. The first, in a dream, the second, at a dance studio I frequent, and the third, in my back yard. I am in central Canada and the Alpine Cough hails originally from Spain. Although it's common in Europe, like I said, it's a non migratory bird. The cardinals also follow me and one has figured out where I live. So this communication with nature is growing in leaps and bounds. I'm getting more and more comfortable with it.
My one concern is that I'm leaving this area and moving 15 hours north. I wonder about leaving my friends, the crows who have offered me so much love, protection, mystery, and amusement.
I so love the comments here. I almost stepped on a newly deceased big crow the other night. I turned around and respected him and prayed over him as he made his journey to the after life. I have had many crows recently crow to me and follow me and when I am down they are around. 2 years ago right before I got hurt on the job a whole tree of crows in high pitched cries swarmed a tree right outside my window. I knew they were giving me messages. Thank you for all your words. Love and Light, Robin
Thanks dude (:
So I just figured out that I have a Crow radar. For months I had left my 4yr old daughter at her daddys house. And every time I went there something told me something was wrong and it got worse every time I went down there. My stomache was weak, and every thought that came into my head was very negative. Turns out that her grandfather was the evel force, that nothing I ever did was good or good enough. I had enough. The night before I went down to get my daughter, I prayed my beautiful birds would follow me down to to that house. They certainly did. It being a two hour drive, I notice they were at all my pit stops, and were always looking south, the direction I was headed. I also noticed that I had no negative feeling, and I had great sleep the night before. that morning I had gone to the lawyers. He said,"Yes, you need to get her out of that house. shouldnt take a few days." When I got to the house, my black crows were on the church roof, overlooking the neighborhood where the house was. They will stay there untill my daughter is permanately with me, and the negative vibrations that follow me are completly gone. Crows are unique in the sense that they know when a child is in harms way, and they can protect a person from harmful thoughts, and tell you that there will be a change.

I so enjoyed reading this. Very informative. There is just so much that we don't know - even though we sometimes think we know it all - or know all we need to know. No, there is more - so much more.
Thank you!
