Elk As Your Totem Animal

If you are suddenly noticing the mighty Elk in your life, it may be coming to you as one of your totem animals. When following the teachings of many Native American traditions, spiritual animals come to us as totems to teach us life lessons. They give us animal medicine which will improve our connection to the Great Mystery and to all life while healingĀ  our bodies, mind, and our spirits.

How will Elk come to you? It might be that you live in an area where elk can physically come into your vision. You may have dreams about elk or be drawn to pictures of elk. You may become aware of books about this beautiful creature or notice a documentary that you can't stop watching. Then again, you might have always been fascinated with elk.

The elk has a great deal of power, strength and stamina. It can run at a fast pace for extended periods of time. Outrunning its predators is one of its main defenses. Elk Totem Teaches Community

Another message or medicine given by the elk totem is one of community. It is rare that an elk would be a loner. They live in herds and for the most part stay with their own gender. The males stay with the males and the females remain with the other females except during mating season.

Elk as a spiritual animal may be telling you to pay attention to your need for group support and companionship. It may also be calling your attention to whether you are spending enough time with your own gender or perhaps too much time.

Does it count that I'm reading a Hub about the elk totem? Actually, I'm doing pretty good with pacing myself, stamina, and community right now, so I guess that's why I haven't seen hide nor hair of one lately.

Now that made me snicker! Yes, Elk won't come to people who are not in need of the lessons. I'm sure there are some animals who are teaching you their medicine right now...the key is to figure out which ones.

Dog as an animal totem has a message of loyalty. However, having a dog as a pet does not make it your totem. In the Native American tradition and spiritual belief dog would be a spirit animal that would share its medicine (lessons) with you.

Hmmm, well I'll be interested if you write about crows. They aren't around now, but last year I had one that wouldn't leave me alone. Everytime I went for a walk I would encounter him/her, cawing like crazy at me. He/she even buzzed me a time or two. No nests or anything, and this would cover a distance of 1/2 mile.

Oh there was definitely some Crow medicine going on there, my friend! Would be curious to know if you remember if at the time you were struggling with an integrity issue. What is right for you spiritually vs human law.

I promise to write a hub about Crow and dedicate it to you, Mulberry!
